May: Asian/ Pacific American Heritage Month

Soldiers of Asian descent have served in the U.S. Army since the War of 1812. Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Soldiers have attained every rank from private to chief of staff of the U.S. Army. Despite a history of oppression by the U.S. government, hundreds of thousands of Asian Americans have served proudly in the U.S. Army. As of 2022, 6% of Soldiers and 5% of Army civilians are part of the AAPI community.
