Become a Museum Volunteer

The Museum is looking for individuals who are passionate about the U.S. Army and about sharing the stories of the men and women who have worn the Army uniform throughout our nation’s history.

There will be a variety of volunteer opportunities, such as visitor services, special events, tours, education, gardening and administration.  We are building a diverse group of volunteers with varied backgrounds and experiences. Specific educational degrees or work experience are not required. All are encouraged to apply!

Volunteer Opportunities

Visitor Engagement Ambassador

The Visitor Engagement Ambassador assists visitors at the Welcome Desk, greets, orients, and helps visitors with finding their way, manages crowds, resolves basic issues and provides coat check services (as needed).

Tour Docent

Provides general guided tours of the overall Museum. Tour Guides will be expected to offer information on various galleries, artifacts and exhibit features.


Gallery Docent

Stationed in specific galleries with duties that include answering questions and providing in-depth knowledge of a specific exhibit, feature or artifact.


Departmental Volunteer

Duties will vary depending on the department but may range from administrative responsibilities to assisting with special projects.


Experiential Learning Center (ELC) Volunteer

Duties include operating the ELC alongside Museum professional staff, assisting with preparation of materials before events and programs, facilitating activities, assisting with craft projects and addressing visitor questions. This opportunity involves working with the Museum’s younger visitors and learners of all ages.


Outreach Volunteer

Assists with awareness and promotion of the Museum, and Museum events and programs.


Special Events Volunteer

Duties may include assisting with the planning, preparation, registration and execution of Army events.  Events include, but are not limited to, commemorative programs, promotion, reenlistment, retirement ceremonies and after-hour events. Physical labor may be required for some special events.


Volunteer Application

Through the application process, you’ll have the opportunity to share your skills, interests and abilities. Together, we will match you to a suitable volunteer position. There is training required for all volunteers and some volunteer positions may require additional, specialized training. Initially, we will accept only volunteer applications from those who are 18 years of age or older.
