Space and the U.S. Army

The U.S. Army led the American effort to explore the “final frontier” – space. Fueled by Cold War fears and mistrust, the Army designed a series of long range rockets that launched the first American satellites into space. The Army continued to improve on this technology engineering the first solar cells to increase the longevity of satellite life in space.
