During the War of 1812, British forces made the Chesapeake Bay region a target of attack in 1814. After landing troops on the Patuxent River, a powerful column of redcoats quickly moved to attack the U.S. capital at Washington. In response, an American force deployed to block the British threat. The two armies met at Bladensburg on Aug. 24 in a bloody battle and a British victory. Join U.S. Army historians John Maass and Glenn Williams for a walking tour of the battleground and learn about the devastating defeat for American arms.
