Donate Artifacts

The National Museum of the United States Army retains and exhibits uniforms, equipment, weapons, accoutrements, archival documents and original artwork related to the long-standing history of the U.S. Army and its Soldiers. The Museum recognizes that every Soldier has a story, and is committed to collecting artifacts and materials that are consistent with supporting this mission.

The Museum accepts historical items that fill an identified need in the Army’s artifact collection. Items accepted into the collection will be preserved and cared for in perpetuity by the Army.

How to Donate:

To request that an item of historical significance be considered for donation to the Museum or to the U.S. Army’s historical collection, please begin by completing the donate request form: Download the Donation Request Form. Please try to be as thorough as possible when describing the item(s) in question and their historical provenance. Please submit this form, along with images, via email to the Exhibits Division.

Once the Museum receives a donation proffer, the Exhibits Division staff internally review it. Items that meet an identified need in the scope of collection will be presented to the U.S. Army Center of Military History’s Collection Committee for review. A National Museum Exhibits Division staff member will contact you directly once a decision has been made or if more information is needed.

Please DO NOT drop your items off or mail them to the Museum without prior written acknowledgement and approval. The Museum, which is part of the U.S. Army Museum Enterprise, cannot legally or physically accept these items into our possession until they have been legally approved to be added to the collection. Items that have been left at the Museum will be returned to the donor immediately. The Museum is not responsible for the final disposition of such items.
